On 23 January 2025, we alerted industry to a new Queensland fruit fly (QFF) outbreak at Glynde in metropolitan Adelaide. The Glynde QFF outbreak causes a 15 km radius around the epicentre and thus impacts the Adelaide Hills wine region.

Maps of the new Glynde outbreak can be found here.

The Industry Notice: Movement requirements for winegrapes regarding Queensland fruit fly outlines any grower, carrier and winery movement requirements for vintage 2025.

Impacted growers within the QFF affected area are encouraged to contact their contracted winery to determine the actions needed for both growers and wineries.

Vinehealth Australia held an industry meeting with PIRSA in the Adelaide Hills on 29 January to share key information with vineyard owners and winemakers and answer questions.

If no additional fruit flies are found within the Glynde fruit fly affected area, the earliest possible reinstatement date will be 16 April 2025.

This outbreak is not new to metropolitan Adelaide with another QFF outbreak also active at Salisbury North with a current earliest possible reinstatement date of 6 March. There is overlap of the Glynde and Salisbury North fruit fly affected areas, so please check the PIRSA outbreak map on how this will impact your business.
