Phylloxera Management Zones in Australia
In February 2020, Agriculture Victoria confirmed new phylloxera detections in the Yarra Valley – both inside the current Maroondah Phylloxera Infested Zone (PIZ) and outside the PIZ in the Phylloxera Risk Zone (PRZ) to the south-east of the Maroondah PIZ, near Yarra Junction. Since February, Agriculture Victoria has been working with industry to determine the new boundary for the Maroondah PIZ to encompass the previously identified extension areas.
Refer to the Agriculture Victoria Industry Notice and MAP dated 30 March 2020 for the updated single extension boundary (shown as the opaque purple crosshatch on the Agriculture Victoria map).
NOTE: This extension is still pending gazettal as a PIZ by Victoria, but is considered a Phylloxera Interim Buffer zone (PIBZ) under South Australia’s Plant Quarantine Standard while gazettal is pending. In practice, this means that importation requirements from a PIZ into SA also apply to importations from this extension area.
