Disposable shoe covers can be used as an alternative to footwear disinfestation, to keep vines safe from pest, disease and weed threats. Shoe covers are particularly popular for VIP guests who cannot have bleach applied to their footwear.
Our current preferred shoe cover is the Pro Val CPE Heavy Duty Boot Cover. This CPE plastic boot cover is made from cast polyethylene providing waterproof protection. The boot covers are a one-size-fits-all generous size, to fit larger shoes and boots, with plastic ties at the ankle for a snug fit.
While the sole is double layered for abrasion and wear resistance, we wear two of these shoe covers per foot because they are prone to rip in vineyard conditions.
We are continuing to search for more robust shoe covers and we are working with Sans Waste Manufacturing on a project to develop a fit-for-purpose footwear solution for vineyard use.
