Project objectives: To develop a footwear solution to integrate into current farm-gate hygiene systems, that will assist in minimising pest, disease and weed introduction and spread in Australian vineyards.

Project description

For many years, Vinehealth Australia has been searching for a sturdy, affordable shoe cover as an alternative to footwear disinfestation, but to date, our search has been unsuccessful.

Vinehealth Australia has started working with UniSA’s Industrial Design Department to develop a footwear solution to integrate into current farm-gate hygiene systems, that will assist in minimising pest, disease and weed introduction and spread in Australian vineyards.

It is expected this footwear solution will initially be promoted for low risk situations as an alternative to wearing on-property footwear or undertaking footwear disinfestation in a 2% sodium hypochlorite solution.

The intention of this project is to develop one or more fit-for-purpose prototypes by the end of 2020 and look towards commercialisation of a suitable, verified prototype thereafter.
