Vinehealth Australia Technical Manager Warren Birchmore presented to the next crop of industry professionals at Adelaide University in May, sharing the latest in biosecurity and best practice farm-gate hygiene.
The small group of fourth year viticulture, oenology and wine marketing students were inquisitive and engaged. The students were all commended for their preexisting awareness of biosecurity.
The presentation included case studies on phylloxera and grapevine red blotch virus and encouraged the students to become biosecurity champions.
The presentation also outlined the multiple career paths in the wine industry, including research, industry support, industry advocacy and biosecurity.
The presentation also included an introduction to Vinehealth Australia, where we fit into the industry, why and when we were established, and some of the activities Vinehealth Australia undertakes.
Students were made aware of the existence of the Vinehealth Australia Vineyard Register, holding planting and landowner details for all vineyards of 0.5 hectares or more across South Australia.
Several statistics from the Register were presented and will be featured in Vinehealth Australia e-news articles.
