The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has announced the commencement of a pest risk analysis (PRA) for khapra beetle – Australia’s second highest exotic plant pest.

This PRA will assess the efficacy and scientific justification of ongoing measures instigated since September 2020 to prevent the arrival of khapra beetle on plant products, sea containers and via other pathways.

The draft report for public consultation is expected to be released in early 2023 and Vinehealth will advise industry of how to provide feedback.

Current import requirements for khapra beetle apply until the PRA has been completed.
