Vinehealth Australia advises that the Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA) declared a new Queensland fruit fly (Qfly) outbreak on 24 August 2022 at Lindsay Point in north-western Victoria, following detection adult fruit flies.

This region is part of the Riverland Pest Free Area and follows a previous Qfly outbreak in the area in May 2019. PIRSA staff are working with Agriculture Victoria to manage this outbreak.

This outbreak takes the tally to 15 Qfly outbreaks currently being managed by PIRSA in the Riverland. For PIRSA’s latest map of the Qfly outbreaks in the Riverland (as at 26 September 2022), click here.

Since the announcement of the Lindsay Point outbreak, the latest reinstatement dates of all Riverland outbreaks have been revised to 26 December 2022 for all outbreaks apart from Waikerie which has a reinstatement date of 25 December 2022. These dates may be revised in time with further detections of fruit flies or larvae.

Vinehealth Australia continues to work with Riverland Wine and PIRSA to assist the fruit fly operations in the Riverland.
