We acknowledge the impact of grapevine trunk diseases on the sustainability of vineyards. In our 2021 Vineyard Owner survey, SA grapegrowers rated Eutypa/trunk disease as having the highest overall impact to current vineyard sustainability, aligning with current industry sentiment.

Vinehealth’s roles in this space are to strongly support research and extension, facilitate knowledge sharing, and support and encourage Vine Improvement and nurseries to focus on exclusion of trunk diseases as part of production of high health vine material.

We have worked with Dr Mark Sosnowski, Program Leader South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) for many years and we are strong supporters of this research.

For tips on how to manage Eutypa and Botryosphaeria issues, as well as hear about new research to inform strategies for management, we encourage you to tune into the Australian Wine Research Institute’s webinar on trunk diseases ‘Grapevine trunk disease management for vineyard longevity in diverse climates of Australia’.

This webinar being presented by Mark and Dr Regina Billones-Baaijens (Charles Sturt University), is being held on 15 September from 11.30am to 12.30pm ACST. Register for the webinar here.
