A number of fruit fly outbreaks have been declared in metropolitan Adelaide by PIRSA, (refer table at end) including some that have overlapping quarantine boundaries. An eradication program has been enacted for each of these outbreaks.
Upon declaration of an outbreak, around each discovery point, a 1.5 km Outbreak Area as well as a further 7.5km Suspension Area for Mediterranean fruit fly (Medfly) or 15km Suspension Area for Queensland fruit fly (Qfly) around each detection site are setup. Collectively the Outbreak Areas and Suspension Areas are known as the “Fruit Fly Affected Areas”.

To report suspected fruit fly, phone the Fruit Fly Hotline: 1300 666 010.

CURRENT INDUSTRY INFORMATION | |
Restrictions now apply to growers and wineries located within the Outbreak and Suspension Areas, and those transiting these areas, regarding the movement of fruit fly host produce. Wineries receiving fruit from the outbreak or suspension areas must also comply with requirements that are in place. Refer here for Vinehealth’s Biosecurity Bulletin for Metropolitan Adelaide fruit fly [first issue 10 February 2021]. If you are unsure whether your commercial vineyard or winery is inside the Fruit Fly Affected Areas, contact Vinehealth Australia. *Notes: 1. Your location relevant to the Fruit Fly Affected Areas is based on the land parcel on which your business (vineyard or winery) is located. If part of your land parcel is inside the Fruit Fly Affected Area, your vineyard or winery is considered to be inside the Area. 2. Applications for ICA-33 and IVCA CA-01 accreditation can be emailed to the PIRSA Market Access team at pirsa.planthealthmarketaccess@sa.gov.au. 3.
