Following notification from Agriculture Victoria of further phylloxera detections inside and outside the Maroondah Phylloxera Infested Zone earlier this year, a new expanded Maroondah PIZ boundary has recently been gazetted and described in Agriculture Victoria’s Industry Notice dated 17 July 2020.

The new phylloxera detections were as a result of industry self-reporting, as communicated in Vinehealth Australia’s Biosecurity Alert issued on 14 February.

This updated Maroondah PIZ boundary extension has pushed out on the eastern and south-eastern edges, now incorporating areas of Woori Yallock, Launching Place, Yarra Junction, Wesburn, Hoddles Creek, Beenak, Gladysdale and Three Bridges.

As always, we urge industry to review the expanded Maroondah PIZ boundary and determine whether there are any impacts for your business. These impacts may include the sourcing of winegrapes, machinery, equipment and contractors from locations which have changed from a Phylloxera Risk Zone to a Phylloxera Infested Zone.

For SA-based industry, ensure you understand and comply with imports as per the SA Plant Quarantine Standard (PQS). A reminder that version 17.0 of the SA PQS is now in force, which includes a number of changes to Condition 7 for grape phylloxera.
